Charcuterie board at Villa CarlottaDo you daydream of frolicking through our neighborhood and bringing home some local favorites to wine and dine on? Then look no further! Villa Carlotta’s dreamy area regularly hosts some of the nation’s top farmers markets, which means they’re just steps outside our front door. We ventured out to the markets that we’ve noticed some of neighborhood restaurant chefs love and regularly shop from to set you up in the kitchen this summer.

  • The Original Farmers Market

Open seven days a week, The Original Farmers Market is home to more than 100 specialty shops, gourmet grocers and world-class eaters in an al-fresco setting. Open Sunday-Thursday from 10am-8pm and Friday-Saturday from 10am-9pm, this market has everything you could dream of. If there’s a missing ingredient from your summer recipe, this is where you’ll find it. From live music and fresh produce to skincare and a postal office, this is your one stop shop.

  • Silver Lake Certified Farmers Market

Established in 2001, the Silver Lake Certified Farmers Market puts an emphasis on farmers, produce, arts and crafts and vegan vendors. Open for business Tuesdays from 1:30pm-7pm and Saturdays from 8am-1:30pm, you’re sure to find all the ingredients you’ll need to make the Gem Lettuce and Avocado Salad from one of our neighborhood favorites, Little Dom’s.

  • Larchmont Village Farmers Market

Sundays are for Larchmont! The Larchmont Village Farmers Market is open every Sunday from 10am-2pm officially, though many of the vendors are ready around 9am. Offering a variety of vendors including fish, produce and more, this market will have everything you need to recreate our neighborhood restaurant pal All Time Los Feliz’s Yellowtail Ceviche in the comfort of your own home. Need a night off from the kitchen? Order your dish online here.

With summer in full swing and the world reopening, we’re all feeling a bout of cabin fever. What better way to enjoy the fruits of a Southern California summer than a day trip to one of Villa Carlotta’s gorgeous neighboring cities! There’s a vast array of possibilities in our region for an entertaining way to spend a day. Our favorite? Santa Barbara!

GETTING THERE | Hop in your car and take a drive up the 101, or take a look at the train schedule for an easy day-trip up the Santa Barbara coastline. Just north of downtown, LA’s Union Station offers travelers an alternative transportation option, with trains that leave periodically throughout the day. Ticket prices for the scenic trip north floating around $30. If the train isn’t your speed, hop in the car and cue up your favorite road trip mix for a drive up the Pacific Coast Highway. Why not as speedy as taking the 101, the PCH provides a more scenic route, peppered with lovely spots to stop along the way such as the Getty Villa, Malibu and Carpinteria.

THE FUNK ZONE | Downtown Santa Barbara, a.k.a “The Funk Zone” is the main drag on State Street, stretching a few blocks between the ocean and Highway 101. Conveniently adjacent to the Amtrak Train Station, the Funk Zone district speaks to Santa Barbara’s contemporary side, offering a variety of boutique tasting rooms, cafes, galleries and shops for a charming stroll in Santa Barbara proper.

URBAN WINE TRAIL | Reserve tickets of the Urban Wine Trail experience, spanning six neighborhoods including the Funk Zone, Presidio, Midtown, La Arcada, Goleta and Summerland. With 24 wineries to experience, we understand if you can’t make it to all of them. If we had to choose, we’d send you over to Deep Sea Wine to take in 360-degree views of the Pacific Ocean, Channel Islands and Riviera.

BEACHES | What’s a trip to Santa Barbara without some much-needed beach time? There are plenty of gorgeous beach options we love, like Butterfly Beach, East Beach and Arroyo Beach. Bring a beach blanket and some snacks for some sea-sprayed down time in this charming corner of the SoCal coast.

BOTANIC GARDEN | Check out 10 different communities of California-native plants at the Santa Barbara Botanic Garden! Open every day from 10am-6pm, the garden offers a Japanese tea shop and garden-style gift shop. Tickets are just $16 for adults and $8 for children.

HISTORY | Santa Barbara is rich in history. Plan to take self-guided interior and exterior tours of the Santa Barbara Courthouse, built in 1939 and still in operation today. Pop into the Santa Barbara Old Mission House and Park, also known as the “Queen of the Missions,” for a dose of California history. We also recommend visiting some exhibits at Santa Barbara’s Museum of Natural History, located on the historic Stearns Wharf.

To top off your day of adventures, travel back to Villa Carlotta and unwind with some of our perks. Take a dip in our heated saltwater pool or pop open one of your new bottles of Santa Barbara wine and enjoy some rooftop views.

One day not enough? There are tons of Airbnb’s and hotels in the area that are perfect to extend your day-trip into a weekend staycation. We love being neighbors with special places like Santa Barbara. We can’t wait to hear the stories you bring back with you. Oh, the weather in Los Angeles is still delightful so won’t you join us at Villa Carlotta this holiday season? We might not have snow on the ground, but Los Angeles is still capable of making holiday magic. Here are a few ways to (safely) spend the holiday season during your visit at Villa Carlotta.

Thanksgiving at Villa Carlotta

Don’t bother with cooking this Thanksgiving, leave that task to the professionals. Grab your Thanksgiving meal for two from Papilles and enjoy in the comfort of your Villa Carlotta residence or while watching the sunset on the rooftop – a wonderful way to end the day in gratitude.

Winter WonderLAnd and Holiday Pop

From November 30 through the end of December, Woodland Hills will be transformed into the North Pole. Enjoy a drive through holiday event and continue checking SoCal Wonderland for ticketing info and updated attractions. A Holiday Pop-up is making its way to Art Bar LA  on Small Business Saturday (November 28) hosted by the Lady Art Collective. The free event includes an outdoor market (physical distancing enforced) and local beers on tap.

Skirball Hannukkah Celebration

The Festival of Lights has gone virtual this year! Celebrate with the Skirball Cultural Center and join them for a special YouTube premiere. Enjoy a community candle lighting and festive sing-along to get you in the groove. Don’t forget to stop by Skirball beforehand to pick up some latkes or a box of sweets.
